Photography Workshops ~ Melanie B Photography ~ Maryland

I’ve got a Photography 101 workshop tomorrow night and there’s still space available!  This workshop will cover the basics of your Digital SLR:  aperture, shutter speed, ISO, white balance, histograms,…..  We’ll talk about all the basic features, what you want to do with them, and how to do it.  My goal for the workshop is to get you to set the camera on “Manual” instead of “Auto” so that you are telling the camera what to do instead of the camera deciding for itself (because you ARE smarter than your camera!!)  :)

I’ve also got a Photographing Your Baby workshop in May.  This one is three Wednesday mornings in May (6, 13, and 20) from 9:30 to 11:30 am.  You need basic knowledge of how to operate your digital SLR, and, well, a baby!  (Maybe I should rename the class:  BYOB  Bring your Own Baby)  You bring your baby (newborn to 12 months) to the class, and you’ll spend most of the class time actually photographing your baby with me by your side.

This summer, I am teaching all of the same workshops that I taught during the winter and spring.  You can find a summary of the upcoming classes here.

Click here to go to the Carroll County Parks and Recreation website to register for any of the workshops.  For the April and May workshops, click on “Specials” in the menu (left side of page), and for the summer classes, click “Arts & Crafts”

Upcoming Photography Workshops ~ Melanie B Photography ~ Maryland

I’ve got a new workshop coming up in April!  It’s Photography 101:  Using Your Digital SLR Camera.

Do you set your SLR on “Auto” or “Program” most of the time because you feel like you don’t know what else to do with it?  Come to my class and learn how to really get the most out of your investment in your camera.  If you are always using “Auto,” you are using a really expensive point’n’shoot!  :-)  The class is appropriate for beginners, and I’ll be using every day terms to explain the basic use and operation of a digital SLR.  We’ll talk about shutter speed, aperture, ISO, white balance, histograms, metering, and lots more!

I’m offering the workshop twice:

Monday, April 6, 9:30 to 11:30 am

Tuesday, April 28, 6:30 to 8:30 pm

As with my last workshop, the class is offered through the Carroll County Recreation and Parks Department.  You can register for the class online using this link:

Spring Program Guide

Click on “Online Program Registration and Payment” at the top of the page, and you’ll find my classes listed under “Specials” on the left hand side.

Photography class rescheduled because of snow ~ Melanie B Photography ~ Marlyand

My first photography class was supposed to be tonight, and it’s been rescheduled because of the nasty weather.  This class is “Oh Baby Baby!” and will teach you to take better pictures of your baby (newborn to toddler) no matter what kind of camera you have.  I have lots of information and tips about lighting, posing, composing, and more!

The new class date is next Tuesday, February 3, same time (7 to 9 pm), same place (South Carroll Senior Center in Eldersburg).  So I hope all you that were registered can make it next week, and if you weren’t registered, but can join us on Feb 3, there’s still time!  Here’s the link to register:

I’m teaching a photography class in January! Carroll County, Maryland

I’m going to be teaching some photography classes through the Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks in the winter and spring of 2009.

The first class is called “Oh Baby, Baby!” and is geared towards anyone who wants to take better pictures of their baby or toddler.  The program will present quick and powerful techniques for lighting, backgrounds, posing, composing and more that will work no matter what kind of camera you have.  The class is January 27, 7 to 9 pm at the South Carroll Senior Center.  The cost for the class is $30.

Here’s a link to their site: www.ccgovernment.carr.org/recreation (I’ve discovered this link doesn’t work in Firefox, by the way.  Try Internet Explorer.)  You can view the Program Guide under “Things To Do”.  The Spring 2009 guide is due to be released in mid-January, and you’ll be able to sign up for the class online at that point.  You can also call their offices directly (410-386-2103) to register.
